Family member of mine is looking at a new AWD IS300. Roughly $40k. What are some other options for a brand new car in the $40k range in this category? Not interested in a used vehicle. What would you choose and why?

2015 C300, I love the Lexus but the Merc is a better car, believe me.

Caddy ATS is in that range. It is a slick car.

What if our suggestion is the Lexus? Also, that’s Tom Wood Lexus, isn’t it?

Does this family member plan on owning this car for a long time?

Because fast, AWD, more fun that Lexus, and I love that interior. Get it in yellow.

Tacoma TRD Offroad in blue.

S4. Because awesome.

A 485 horsepower Dodge Charger Scat Pack starts right at $40k. You can pick up a more pedestrian 370 horsepower R/T for considerably less.

Jag XE
Partly because supporting local community but mostly because British Racing Green.

the IS...cause i love the looks, Lexus build quality, and Lexus reliability

For an awd nice commuter car I’d probably pick the Acura TLX SH-AWD over the IS300 AWD. I’ve just never been a Lexus fan and the current styling bugs me.

Haha it may just be. Not sure which dealer they went to. Most likely the Greenwood location.

Most likely yes.

A Mazda 6 and an awesome European vacation.

Only if leased, or still under warranty.
I’d take the Lexus over a Merc past their warranty without hesitation.

You should go up there with them. If anything, you can go to Tom Wood Jaguar in the same complex. They have many, many F-Types. And Lexus has many, many RC-Fs.
Are you in Indy? Because we could meet up sometime.

I’d get the Lexus then :]

ATS is in that range. It is the one I would go with. Also A4 would be right there as well.

Holy hell that looks great.. If I can get one exactly like that with 3 pedals consider me sold.

Volvo S60. I’m biased but it think it looks miles ahead of the Lexus.
T5, T5 AWD, or even T6 AWD all fall around that price. And you’ll get the best seats ever.

Cadillac ATS should be within the range with similar reliability.

I like this idea.

Used to be in Indy. I live in Jersey now but grew up in the area. I appreciate the offer though!

Diesel only for the manuals until the new petrol engines are out which won’t be for a while.

Making a 3 series competitor without a 3rd pedal cause the new engines aren’t ready? Ingenium!

Truth is, if they are shopping for an AWD IS, their mind is made up. They want a Lexus and they want AWD and they don’t want an RX...this is a game of which Lexus isn’t the things they don’t want and can also afford.

I would get a 335i myself. If they get the F-Sport maybe they could still be considered family.

TLX is probably roomier too, IS is really more of a compact sedan.

Shopping the same segment this spring, I bought an A4. I don't regret it.

If you're ever back in town, you know how to contact me. It involves a spotlight and a large stencil shaped like an eggplant. Or just contact me here.

My grandmorther was in the market for a similar car. She wound up with a Cadillac ATS Performance, which I’d say is worth a look. I’d also take a look at the Infiniti Q50 and an Audi A3.

Duramax Colorado.
Now for your situation, Scat Pack Charger. Or, if you have a extra 5k, SS even though it’s down on power.

I think I'll go with the eggplant shaped spotlight aimed at the Chase building downtown.

The IS is a very good car, and there are several alternatives to this car. The german 3, Acura TLX, Infiniti Q50, Cadillac ATS, Lincoln MKZ, Volvo S60 and so on, can’t go wrong with any of these.
IF it was my money, I would probably get a BMW 3-series or Cadillac ATS since they’re excellent performers. I’ve heard the new Audi A4 is fantastic so I could consider that.
